  • Our first Whiskey & Cigars Veterans Benefit event was held July 23rd at the Row Kaka’ako. Thank you to all the organizations that supported this, It was a complete success. We are looking forward to do it again next year.
  • Voice of Democracy (VOD) and Patriot’s Pen scholarship program has started again. VOD audio-essay program provides high school students (grades 9-12) with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic themed recorded essay. The 2022-2023 theme is “Why is the Veteran Important?”. Patriot’s Pen essay contest encourages young minds (grades 6-8) to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300-400 word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme. The 2022-2023 theme is “My Pledge to Our Veterans”. Go to “Youth Scholarship & Education” under “Programs & Committees” for more information
  • VFW Post 970 meetings are held every third Thursday at 1900 at the Oahu Veterans Center. For more information, go to “About VFW Post 970” Meetings page.

  • October 1-2, 2022: 1000-1700 Gun Show at the Neal Blaisdell Center. VFW Post 970 has had a booth at the Gun Show since the early 2000’s. We share information and benefits, and as an outreach to veterans.
  • October TBD, 2022: Go Fish Booth at the NEX. Each year VFW Post 970 supports our community with a fishing booth for little children to get prizes.
  • November 11, 2022: Veterans Day Ceremonies: Waikiki Natatorium WWI Memorial, WWII Memorial, Korean/Vietnam Memorial, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl, Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Hickam Field Flagpole and Operation Homecoming Monuments
  • November 12-13, 2022: 0830-1530 Buddy Poppy Drives: Saturday at the NEX, Sunday at the Hickam Commissary

  • May 7, 2022: 0900-1100 VFW Day of Service. Joint project with VFW Post 1540. Cleaning up the Hawaii Korea-Vietnam War Memorial on the grounds of the Hawaii State Capitol.

 

  • April 16-17, 2022: Was our first VFW Post 970 Fundraiser at the Navy Exchange. Donations collected during a Buddy Poppy drive cannot go to support the Post, only money we collect during our fundraisers can go to help operate the Post.

 

  • April 4, 2022: Was the 49th Anniversary of the End of Operation Homecoming, the return of the POW from Vietnam. VFW Post 970 had a small ceremony cross the street of the Hickam gas station/Firestone, see events for photos. We are currently coordinating with JBPH-H if they are doing any ceremony for next year’s 50th

 

  • March 29, 2022: National Vietnam Veterans Day
    • 1000 Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
    • 1800 Parade in Waikiki.

 

  • March 12-13, 2022: The Gun Show at the Neal Blaisdell Center. VFW Post 970 has had a booth at the Gun Show since the early 2000’s to share information and benefits and as an outreach to veterans. This was the first Gun Show since the start of the pandemic.

 

  • October 15, 2021: We had our annual “Go Fish” booth at the NEX. Look under Events section, “Go Fish” for photograph.
