  • VFW Post 970 Leadership meetings are normally held every first Tuesday of each month at 1700 at the Row Kaka’ako. For more information, go to “About VFW Post 970” Meetings page.

  • Oahu Veterans Council meeting are normally held the fourth Saturday of each month at 0900 at the Oahu Veterans Center.
  • March 1, 2024: Scout of the Year Post entries due to Post.
  • March 14, 2024: Nominations start at the regular March post meeting. All members of VFW Post 970 are eligible to run for any position. For more information, go to “Events” Election of Post Officers.

  • March 29, 2024: 0930 National Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
  • March 29, 2024: 1630 National Vietnam Veterans Day Parade. The official “Welcome Home” event in Waikiki. The Parade will commence at 1800.
  • April 1, 2024: Scout of the Year Post entries due to the Department Scouting Chairman.
  • April 4, 2024: Will be the 51st Anniversary of the End of Operation Homecoming, the return of the POW from Vietnam. VFW Post 970 had a small ceremony across the street of the Hickam gas station/Firestone. Go to events for past ceremony photos.

  • Voice of Democracy (VOD) and Patriot’s Pen scholarship program has started again. VOD audio-essay program provides high school students (grades 9-12) with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic themed recorded essay. The 2022-2023 theme is “Why is the Veteran Important?”. Patriot’s Pen essay contest encourages young minds (grades 6-8) to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300-400 word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme.   • July 23, 2022, 1800-2100 Our first Whiskey & Cigars Veterans Benefit event was held at the Row Kaka’ako. Thank you to all the organizations that supported this, It was a complete success. We are looking forward to do it again in the future.

  • May 7, 2022: 0900-1100 VFW Day of Service. Joint project with VFW Post 1540. Cleaning up the Hawaii Korea-Vietnam War Memorial on the grounds of the Hawaii State Capitol.
  • April 16-17, 2022: Was our first VFW Post 970 Fundraiser at the Navy Exchange. Donations collected during a Buddy Poppy drive cannot go to support the Post, only money we collect during our fundraisers can go to help operate the Post.
  • April 4, 2022: Was the 49th Anniversary of the End of Operation Homecoming, the return of the POW from Vietnam.   • March 12-13, 2022: The Gun Show at the Neal Blaisdell Center. VFW Post 970 has had a booth at the Gun Show since the early 2000’s to share information and benefits and as an outreach to veterans. This was the first Gun Show since the start of the pandemic.
