What is the Military Initiative Program (MIP)? This program is a national method of offering to our active duty, Reserve and National Guard comrades a one-year free membership at-large in the VFW. This is to introduce them to our great organization. Those comrades in this category are to be actively recruited. The Joint Chiefs of Staff and DOD approve this program. This method of recruiting helped make Post 970 an All-American Post in 1999-2000, 2000-2001and 2001-2002. All at large members who were recruited under the MIP program are eligible to transfer to the Colonel Horace Hickam Post 970.
Want to be a Life Member, but, the cost is too much for your “pocket book” Well, the VFW has an Installment Plan. Current, paid 2002 annual members, may take advantage of the Installment Plan offered by National Headquarters each year from January 1 through March 31. This simple, interest free, installment plan allows the Life Membership fee to be spread over payments within the calendar year. An installment Plan Agreement form is from the National Headquarters. An initial installment (1/4 of the total fee) must be sent along with the completed form directly to National Headquarters, Life Membership Department. National will bill for the remaining payments which become due on June 30, September 30 and December 15. Credit cards may not be used for installment payments.
The Direct Dues Program seems to be going OK, Renewals can now be accomplished online at www.vfw.org under membership. You can now use your credit card to renew your dues online. If you have not received your renewal card or live here in Hawaii and wish to pay the annual dues renewal fee directly to your VFW Post 970, please contact our membership committee members.
